Award Descriptions

"A/B" Honor Roll:
“A/B” Honor Roll students have earned an 80% or higher in all classes for the first semester.

"A" Honor Roll:
“A” Honor Roll students have a 90% or higher in all their classes for the 1st semester.

Cougar of the Year:
One student is nominated by each teacher as the “Best All Around” student for that teacher. The Cougar of The Year Award is not only based on academics but includes the student’s overall character.

Top Scholar:
Students designated as the most outstanding academic student by maintaining the highest-grade point average for a particular subject will be named the teacher’s Top Scholar.

Random Acts of Kindness Nominees:
Henderson Middle School honors the memory of DeKalb County School District's educator Dr. Horace P. Morgan by awarding the Random Acts of Kindness Award. Dr. Morgan was described by those who knew him as a man with a heart of gold - always caring more for others than himself, always taking time to be kind and thoughtful to those around him. Students who receive this award can be known not just for their academic achievement, but as one who embodies several positive character traits such as respect, selflessness, honesty, loyalty, responsibility, cooperation, and most importantly kindness. Students who exhibit these qualities reach higher and light the way to a brighter future not just for themselves but for all.

Presidential Education Award:
The President’s Education Award is given to students who have demonstrated outstanding academic excellence during middle school. Students will be honored for earning all A's in all classes for 6th, 7th, and 1st semester of the 8th grade.

Board Scholars:
Every year 4 students are chosen as Henderson Middle School’s representatives for the DeKalb County School System Board Scholar award. Students are chosen based on academic achievement, academic performance, and composition. This is the highest honor given to an 8th grade student.

Scientific Tools and Techniques (STT) program winners:
STT is a challenging, fast-paced, program designed to familiarize 9th grade students with tools and techniques of scientific inquiry. Selection criteria are based on grades, teacher recommendations and student interest in science.

Miscellaneous Awards:
Students will also be recognized for placing at local school, district, state, and national level competitions.
