Lakeside Cross Country
If you are a rising 8th grader or 9th grader and are thinking about participating in Lakeside High School’s Cross Country, there will be an interest meeting on Monday, April 29th at 6:00pm in the Lakeside Cafeteria.  Summer practice and the fall season will be discussed. Parents and students are invited to attend.  For more information about Lakeside Cross Country, visit their website at lakesidexc.org.  
HMS March Madness Winners
Our HMS Foundation March Madness fundraiser is over, and the HMS Foundation would like to thank everyone who participated.  We raised around $19,000 to support our students and teachers!.  And, the results are in from our March Madness competitions.  Our Money Wars winning team is Team 6D.  They win a Soda and Takis Party.  The winner of the Pizza and Prime party is Team 7D.  And,  Team 8D wins the Popsicle Party.  Congratulations to our winners and thank you for your donations!
8th Grade Dance Tickets

The HMS Mysterious Carpet Affair 8th Grade Farwell Dance will be on Friday, May 3rd at Savoy Hall.  Tickets are $40 and are on sale now through May 1st.  Purchase tickets on the cafeteria stage during all lunches or see Ms. Brooks in Room 508.  Only cash or money orders will be accepted.  
8th Grade Movie Night
8th Grade Movie night is coming!  Come see "Jumanji-Welcome to the Jungle" with your friends and classmates after school on Friday, April 12th.  This free event will be held in the cafeteria and is only open to HMS 8th Grade students.  But, you must sign up to attend.  To sign up, scan the QR code found on posters inside the school building or use the one below. Sign-ups will close once a capacity of 300 students is reached.  Concessions will be sold and all proceeds benefit the 8th Grade End of Year Celebration.   
Do You Want to be the HMS Mascot?

Are you interested in being HMS mascot? Do you have school spirit? Do you want to represent your HMS with pride?
Come one, come all, and show your Henderson spirit.  The HMS cheerleaders are looking for the most spirited male and female students, to be the HMS mascots.  The requirements are:
  • Currently in 6th or 7th grade.
  • Must be dedicated to attend most sporting and school events.
  • Will also double as a cheer manager.
  • Must have a current school physical.
If Interested, please plan to attend the Parent Cheer Interest Meeting on Wednesday, March 27th at 5:30 PM in the HMS Media Center. If you cannot attend, please email Coach Brooks at [email protected].

8th Grade Farewell Dance Contracts
Attention 8th Graders!  All 8th grade students who plan to attend the 8th Grade Farewell Dance must have a signed contract.  Contracts have been sent home and they must be returned by Friday, March 29th.  No contracts will be given out or accepted once tickets go on sale.  If you have questions, please see Ms. Brooks.  
Media Production Class Application
Attention 6th Graders,
 
Do you like making and editing videos?  How would you like to create videos and help produce our morning announcements? If so, now is the time for 6th graders to apply for our 7th Grade Media Production Classes for next school year. The 7th grade class is a pre-requisite for being on our HMS Morning Announcements news team in 8th grade. The number of students accepted to the classes is limited so you must apply.  
 
To show your interest in the class, CLICK HERE to fill out the online interest form.  Mr. Mason will then send you an email with more information about supplying writing and/or video samples and teacher recommendations.  The deadline to submit your interest form is Friday, March 29th.  For more information, see Mr. Mason in the Library.
March Madness Fundraiser-Deadline Extended!

The deadline for the HMS Foundation's March Madness fundraiser has been extended to March 31st! It’s for a great cause – like helping the school get  a Virtual Reality STEM LAB!  Get your cash and change ready!  The Money Wars competition has concluded but there are more opportunities to donate and win parties for your academic teams.


This year’s team prizes include: 

A Popsicle Party for the team with the largest percentage of members with online donations. Then, the winning Money Wars team will receive a Soda and Takis party. And the Team with the top donations amount for all of March Madness will receive a Pizza and Prime party.   

Parents, grandparents, friends, and neighbors are encouraged to go to the Henderson Foundation web site and enter their donation. The web site is hmsfoundation.org.  Make sure you know your team number and enter your name and your team with their donation.  This is how your team will win. Come on Cougars - let’s make this year’s fundraiser a SLAM DUNK! 

8th Grade T-Shirt Design Contest

Calling all 8th Graders! The HMS Class of 2024 T-Shirt Design Contest Now Open! This is your chance to unleash your creativity and leave your mark on this memorable year. The theme for this year’s contest is to reflect on your journey through middle school and capture the essence of your 8th grade experience.   

  • All Designs should be original and represent the spirit of our class.
  • They Must meet Dekalb County dress code requirements.
  • They must be your own original unpublished work and must not contain any third-party logos.
  • They Must contain the words:  “Henderson Middle School” and “Class of 2024”
  •  Designs can have up to 2 colors 
  • The size must be 12” x 12” or smaller 

  • Entries are due by March 1st and should be submitted via email with your name and best contact number to [email protected].  Entries will be judged on content, creativity and design quality.
